Mitchell Schrum…who am I?
I love the sport of Speed Skating! I have been on skates for as long as I can remember. I started skating on my back yard rink when I was 4. I took a “Learn to Speed Skate” session with KW Speed Skating when I was 7 and never looked back. If I wasn’t at the rink, I was biking, in-lining or dry land training to get back on my skates for the next race season.
I skated regionally and provincially making many good friends along the way. I spent many weekends with my parents driving the 401 and staying in hotels for race weekends. These were great times! During race weekends you could find me at the equipment table with Shoei Creations (Paul Shoebridge) discussing equipment or racing. My hard work started to pay off when I skated at the 2016/17 Junior 2 and I won a Bronze Medal in the 500-meter distance. That same year at Provincials I skated the Ontario Records for the 500, 1000- and 1500-meter distances.
I moved to Calgary in September of 2017 to train at the Olympic Oval. I learned valuable training, equipment and life lessons during my 2 years in Calgary. The training schedule was intense and also, I spent many hours in the gym to prepare for physical testing. I skated Nationally for 2 years, gaining valuable racing experience and injury prevention. Speed Skating is a great community!
I returned to Ontario September 2020 to continue with my Apprenticeship and share my knowledge with the skaters in the area. I learned that Paul Shoebridge was moving to Calgary and decided with his guidance I would start Mitch’s Speed Skating Equipment to support Ontario with Speed Skating Equipment.
